Welcome to Blackhawk Academy, where we offer a variety of educational programs that empower our students with the skills, knowledge, and motivation to succeed! The SUCCESS, Transition, and Connections programs each utilize a student-centered, strengths-based approach, intended for students whose needs are better met within a non-traditional learning environment.
I am both honored and excited to serve as the principal of Blackhawk Academy. My passion for education and supporting the success of all students has been shaped through my many educational experiences, both inside and outside of the classroom. I earned a bachelor's degree in special education from Benedictine University and a master's degree in educational administration from Northern Illinois University. I had the privilege of teaching high school special education students in the communities of North Aurora, Cicero, and DeKalb, a role I treasured for seven years. More recently, serving as a special education administrator in both building and district positions for the past six years has further prepared me to take on the role of principal at Blackhawk Academy.
Outside of work, I love being with my family which includes my two children and four pets! Together, we enjoy watching movies, listening to music, reading books, and traveling any chance we have. I also enjoy giving back to the Golden Apple Scholar Program, whose goal is to prepare aspiring teachers for immediate and lasting success. I am lucky enough to have been a Golden Apple Scholar myself and am thankful for the wonderful teaching and mentoring experiences that better prepared me for my career.
Together, I know we can do great things as we work to give our students every opportunity to be successful. I invite you to be a part of our school whenever you can and am looking forward to all that the 2020-21 school year will bring!
